In the northern West Bank city of Nablus, primary schools have become a tough place to learn: Not only are they underfunded and overcrowded, they’ve also become flashpoints for fighting in recent years, as the Israeli military has attacked school buildings, used classrooms as temporary prisons, or destroyed facilities entirely. In many first-grade rooms, there are now more bullet holes than books.
